City Council Approves Fire Sprinkler Installation Assistance Program

Sprinkler-head

At their October 23 meeting, City Council approved legislation enacting a Fire Sprinkler Installation Assistance program. The program provides for the waiving of all city water connection, permit and inspection fees for the installation of approved fire sprinkler systems in eligible existing commercial, office and industrial structures. The program incentives are not eligible for new construction.

The program will help incentivize owners of commercial, office and industrial structures to retrofit their existing buildings with fire sprinkler systems by offsetting all associated city fees. To help illustrate the savings, City Manager David Kennedy provided City Council an example of a 3800 square foot building adding a fire sprinkler system to their existing building, would witness a savings of over $24,000 in waived fees.

Fire Chief Otto Huber noted “City fees are a significant obstacle to many looking to retrofit their buildings with sprinkler systems”.  Mayor Bailey added “The City is very appreciative of the businesses that have chosen to be in Loveland, and we are pleased to offer this program as a means to protect their investment, with the added bonus of potentially preserving historic structures in our City and protecting our firefighters.”
