The Loveland community lost a great servant today. Retired Loveland Police Department Chief of Police Colonel Dennis (Denny) Rees passed away early this morning. Denny officially served as Loveland's Chief of Police from 1995 until 2008. However, Denny was very active in the Loveland community even before then. Most notably, he coached baseball for many aspiring Loveland athletes. Denny was fun, jovial, and energetic in life, and in public service. Denny knew Community made Loveland, and LPD, a great place to be. While at LPD he began many new and exciting innovations such as a Youth Explorer Program, Juvenile Diversion Court to keep young people out of the court system, Westover Village "Afterschool" Program, LPD Citizen's Police Academy, LPD K9 Program, LPD School Resource Officer Program, LPD Bike Patrol, and many more. Denny left a lasting legacy for our community and his loss will be felt throughout Loveland.
We appreciate your thoughts and prayers for Denny and his family. We will update the community when arrangements have been made.
