The City of Loveland kicks off its Downtown Plan

downtown planning committee

On November 5th, Mayor Kathy Bailey administered the oath of office to the members of the recently appointed Downtown Planning Committee.  The committee, along with staff, will work with Yard and Company to prepare a Downtown Strategic Development Plan, which is phase one (1) of the city’s two (2) phase planning efforts.  Joe Nickol with Yard and Company stated that the Downtown Strategic Development Plan will "Create an action-orientated investment plan for downtown Loveland's next 5 to 10 years". Mayor Kathy Bailey thanked the committee for volunteering to serve on this important planning effort. Mayor Bailey added "This is an exciting time for Downtown Loveland and taking the necessary time to plan for its growth is integral."  The Downtown Planning Committee will play an important role in the preparation of the plan by gathering information for the team, connecting the planning process to the public, coordinating public workshops and generally promoting the planning effort.

The Downtown Strategic Development Plan is anticipated to take approximately six (6) months to complete.  Upon completion, the city will be utilizing the firm McBride Dale Clarion to commence with an update to the City's Comprehensive Plan.  The comprehensive plan update will serve as the framework for the city's growth and development outside of the boundaries of the Downtown District. The plan will identify issues, needs and opportunities organized in a manner that best utilizes City resources.  Both plans will describe a desired future for the community and are to be used by elected and appointed officials along with City staff in the ongoing process of making decisions, creating regulations and allocating funds.

Planning efforts are community based, and input from the public is critical.  Please stay tuned for meeting schedules and public workshops which will be posted on the City’s website. If you have not already done so, we encourage residents to create an account of our new website www.lovelandoh.gov and request notifications of meetings.
