[ARCHIVED] City Council Presents Community Awards

2

Loveland City Council presented two awards at its April 23 meeting:

2024 Louis G. Rockwood Community Service Volunteer Award

Gary Giver was presented the Rockwood Award by Mayor Kathy Bailey to recognize his volunteer time and accomplishments.

At the Loveland Stage Company, a not-for-profit organization, Giver serves as House Manager and on the Board of Directors. He is leading the Loveland Stage Company Music Series and the Loveland Shorts Film Festival, a weekend of short films produced by independent local, national, and international filmmakers scheduled for August 2-3.

Mayor Bailey mentioned that you often can see Gary and his wife, Becky, walking on State Route 48 carrying a bag and picking up trash to help keep the community beautiful and clean. They have been part of the Adopt a Block program for years. In their spare time, Gary and Becky take care of the bird feeders at the East Loveland Nature Preserve.

Mayor Bailey noted that Gary truly cares about the city and its people, and he helps make the community better for all of us and for future generations.

2024 Business Enhancement Award

Vice Mayor Ted Phelps presented Kate Harden, owner and operator of The 1859, with this year’s Business Enhancement Award.

Kate owns The 1859 with her husband Shane. They acquired the historic chapel in 2013, took residence in 2014, and then embarked on a multi-year effort to demo and beautify the property.

The sanctuary was turned into a large event space and a kitchen was added along with an outdoor patio. More recently, they opened a bed and breakfast unit in the adjoining former schoolhouse building. The bell tower has been reconstructed. Additionally, lighting and landscaping has been added to the property.

Vice Mayor Phelps stated that their hard work and meticulous renovations have resulted in a truly premier space for weddings, meetings, and general events in Historic Downtown Loveland. He noted that what makes The 1859 so special and inviting is the beauty and charm found both inside and outside of the building. Outside, trees and flowers adorn the entrance as well as the large patio. Inside, a vaunted ceiling and warm décor create an air of true tranquility. As the venue planner and operator of The 1859, Kate makes sure that visitors get a 5-star experience. Kate and her staff have been noticed, especially by wedding professionals, who have given The 1859 a “Best of Weddings” venue award and a “Couples Choice” award.
