[ARCHIVED] Grant Awarded to Loveland-Symmes & Goshen Fire Departments

LSFD and Goshen

The City of Loveland, along with Goshen and Symmes Townships, has been awarded a regional Homeland Security grant in the amount of $441,725.88. The grant was awarded from the 2022 Assistance to Firefighters Grant funding from the federal government.

The Goshen Township Fire Department and Loveland-Symmes Fire Department collaborated on applying for funding to support behavior health and physical fitness for their 117 firefighters and EMS personnel. The grant will fund cancer screening, NFPA 1583 physicals, and behavior health assessments.

Chief Edward Myers of Goshen Township commented, “In today’s fire service, our members are exposed to many dangerous chemicals including many carcinogens. It is important that we complete a baseline evaluation of their health and monitor them throughout their career.”

The grant will fund a behavioral health specialist who will assess all members, as well as educate members on dealing with stress from critical incidents and the day-to-day stresses of working in the fire and EMS environment.

“We are excited about the opportunity to provide behavior health and physical fitness services to our members. Collaborating with our brothers and sisters in Goshen Township is just another example that we are all better and safer together,” stated LSFD Chief Otto J. Huber.

The FEMA grant is a 90/10 funding split with 10 percent coming from the local government. LSFD will administer the grant as the host agency.
